Behold lovely snaps from Nadia and Marc’s wedding by Millar Cole Photography. The ceremony was at Glasgow City Chambers and Nadia and Marc got photographs on what the Council says is the “largest marble staircase in Western Europe”. After a pit stop at the big trendy Laurieston, the reception was at The Savings Bank.
The first dance was Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down The Line”, and the last dance was an unusual but undoubtedly patriotic “yes sir I can boogie”. It’s usually a nightmare when couples don’t choose Loch Lomond to finish, as you get loads of hassle, but Nadia and Marc’s guests were totally cool.
Springsteen fans were treated to several Boss deep(ish) cuts during the evening. The NYC live version of “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” is a personal delight, incorporating one of the brilliant Curtis Mayfield’s best songs, “It’s All Right”.
I had planned out an extended drum n bass into dance section kicking off with the DJ Fresh and Ms. Dynamite banger “Gold Dust”. This was sidetracked by stuff like “Come On Eileen” in response to heckling from guests who identified themselves as “the older folk”. I’m pleased to say the dance action got back on track later with tunes like Mason x Princess Superstar’s “Perfect (Exceeder)” followed by the inimitable “212” (very similar songs, with hindsight – where there’s a hit there’s a writ). Hopefully “the older folks” covered their delicate ears during the filthy lyrics of 212 and other things like “got your money”!
It’s possibly not surprising Nadia enjoyed the songs so much as she picked the vast majority of them. It was a lot of fun to mix them into a winning sequence.
The existence of a second dancefloor downstairs was a revelation to me at midnight, and I suppose this is how Fatboy Slim feels when he stands on Brighton Beach and can’t even see all his dancers.
A wee epilogue – The Savings Bank holds a special place in my affections as I had my 40th birthday party there just weeks before the first Lockdown. (The chat at the time as that so many characters in one place had broken the space time continuum.) It’s a very cool venue and hopefully if I write nice things here they will recommend me to more happy couples and party people in the future. I even got a whole leftover pizza at the end. A dream gig and all the best to this lovely couple for the future. X
